Like practically every other six-year-old child, my young granddaughter absolutely loves unicorns and when she gets the chance to decorate and customise her very own plush unicorn – well it’s a dream come true. I was very lucky to be offered an Airbrush Plush Unicorn from Canal Toys to review, so my granddaughter was more than happy to help with this.

This lovely, soft, cuddly unicorn comes attractively packaged in a colourful cardboard box, which also contains over one hundred re-usable stick-on stencils, four airbrush colours and an airbrush spray. When my granddaughter opened the box and discovered the beautiful unicorn inside, she was delighted. She is a very imaginative child and loves the idea of being able to create and personalise her very own bespoke toy which is totally different from anyone else’s. An added bonus is that the Airbrush Plush Unicorn uses a special chalk-based spray paint which can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. After cleaning and leaving the toy to dry for a short while, she can start all over again, decorating the toy in lots of different designs.

In our household, we enjoy doing all manner of crafts with our family, as we always love spending time together, learning through play. This toy ticks lots of boxes as it combines the fun activity of painting and design with the joy of being able to cuddle up with a magical unicorn. It is also good for encouraging young children to develop skills whilst having lots of fun at the same time.

Before starting to decorate the unicorn. I placed the entire contents of the box on a plastic “messy mat” which we always use to keep surfaces clean when we do any crafts. Wearing a plastic apron is also a good idea in order to keep clothes clean. The toy is aimed at children of six years old and above and young children will require supervision as any activity which involves painting can be a little bit messy, but luckily the paints washed easily away, leaving my granddaughter’s fingers nice and clean.

The airbrush requires two 1.5 AA batteries which were not supplied, and once these were put into place, my granddaughter was ready to create her design. The unicorn has a beautiful soft plush body with a main of white fluffy hair and, of course, a single shiny purple horn in the centre of it’s head. It has huge attractive sparkly eyes which make it look very appealing, especially to a young child. My granddaughter found the airbrush very basic and simple to use, perfect for a young child to get to grips with. First of all, she decided to decorate the unicorn freehand with a series of dots and squiggles. Then she realised that she could use the stick-on stencils to create even more patterns. She loved colouring unicorn’s hair pink and lilac as her older sister has multicoloured hair and she wanted to copy her style.
My granddaughter is extremely happy with her beautiful bespoke unicorn as it is totally different from any toy which her friends have. She has had lots of fun painting and creating her own design and she can now start over again recreating a completely different look.

This toy is very reasonably priced at less than £25 and will provide hours of fun for girls and boys of six years and over and it will make an ideal Christmas gift.
