I was a teenager in the 1980\s and oh my, was it the best era, not just for music and fashion but computer games. From Atari to…. Yes, you have guess correctly, Pac-Man, the brightly coloured and fast eating machine and I just loved the game so much, so you can imagine how I felt when I was asked to review ‘Pac-Man The Card Game’. Eeeeeek, sooooooo excited and a game I could not wait to try out and play with my husband, too eager to wait to play with the grandkids lol.
Product Description
The packaging the cards come in reminded me so much of the computer game, bright, bold, colourful and exciting. Even the lettering looks like the classic 80s computer type face, so nostalgic and happy memories of the 1980’s
If you ever played the computer game, you will know that the aim and objective of it is to get through with as many points as possible without being kicked out by the ghosts.
To start the game, start with deck 1 by shuffling the deck and place it face down in reach of all the players. The player who can do the best impression of Pac-Man takes their turn first and then in a clockwise direction, each plays takes their turn.
When it is your turn, you either draw cards, or shut down until the end of the game and if you do decide to draw cards, you need to draw them one at a time, be sure to look at each card individually. Once you have drawn the card and checked it, you need to decide if to end your turn, keep drawing cars or shut down. You can draw no more than 3 cards during each turn. Once you have drawn your third card, you then have to end your turn or shut down.
Without giving away too much, there are choices you can make where you have to keep them a secret.
If you draw a power up, you have to put the card face up in front of you and do what it says… this is really good fun and is all explained in the fabulous little hand leaflet.
Within the box, there are 2 card decks, levels one and two with so much fun to be had with them. There is even a third bonus level where you need to use both of the decks with extra players of up to 8.
Collect fruit and PAC-dot cards to get win points and look out for the power up cards which have special rules, like having two players swap hands. Try not to get three ghost cards or you’ll be knocked out of the game.
In order to win points, you need to collect fruit and Pac-dot cards and keep an eye out for the power up cards which have special rules. One of these rules is to give another player a ghost card if you have one as you really do not want any of these, especially three of them, as this means you are knocked out of the game and you have to put your hands in front of your face to show others you are knocked out. So much fun!
