Starlight Express Milton Keynes Theatre Review

Starlight Express
Milton Keynes Theatre

We went to see Starlight Express on a Friday evening at Milton Keynes Theatre. I wasn't sure what to expect, I knew the show had been around for years so thought it must be good however I have to admit, it wasn't something that ever appealed to me before.

On entering the theatre we were handed 3D glasses, which were quite cleverly referred to as our 'safety goggles' and we were instructed to put them on during the more 'dangerous' parts of the show. I thought this added a really fun element and something I hadn’t experienced in a stage performance before.

The show itself was fast paced, exciting and very cleverly done. The costumes are amazing and the lighting and special effects are fantastic. During parts of the show it was quite difficult to understand what the actors/actresses were saying due to the very strong accents and microphones, but this did not stop us from being able to follow exactly what was going on. The songs are mostly upbeat which I find appealing, and the duet between Rusty and Pearl towards the end was sung beautifully.

Overall, we had a great night out and I would recommend this show to others.
