Looking for the perfect gift for that Harry Potter fan who has everything? I play that game every year and this year I was lucky enough to try the Enesco Harry Potter Decorative Goblet. It arrived presented in a lovely box, sturdy, white cardboard with images of the Wizarding world printed all over. Inside, the goblet is protected by polystyrene.
As I took it from the box, it was a little heavier than I expected and a really good size. With a height of almost 8 inches, it looks impressive and large enough to be used to hold a drink. When you hold it, it does feel like you have a really important drink. It makes the occasion feel special. Like you’re sitting in the Great Hall at a Christmas feast, drinking Butter Beer. When I came to use it my hubby actually adopted it, claiming how nice it was to hold, a good fit for his hands.
The drinking part is stainless steel, encased in resin with the Hogwarts emblem around it. Gemstones adorn the goblet which was a detail I really liked. I loved that it was hand finished and the over all finish on the paintwork is very good. I love the emblems and smaller details although we were missing a gemstone on the base.
The stainless steel is smooth and rounded, a little thick to actually drink from though. It isn’t uncomfortable really just unusual. Once used to this though it is really lovely to drink from. The stainless steel part of the cup is high enough so that you aren’t putting the resin in your mouth.
Even though it didn’t look it, it is sturdy. I dropped it when washing it and luckily, it wasn’t damaged. I would also like to say that it washes really well, I wash gently in the sink and would advise the same especially with the gemstones as they’re glued on.
To be honest though I feel it makes a better bowl than a cup. I served my 12 year old daughter her ice cream in it, she’s a huge Harry Potter fan and when presented with this whilst watching the movie she was so happy. Saying that though this item is aimed at adults only so I wouldn’t recommend giving the item to younger children. If you don’t use it to drink from, definitely use it for desserts! If you don’t want to use it then it makes a lovely display piece and would look beautiful as part of a collection.
I feel the £35 RRP is a little on the high side, however it is meant as more of a collectors piece than to use often. I feel true fans of the franchise would have no problem with this price point.
It is really giftable, I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t like it. I give this item 4.5 out of 5 stars, the only things letting it down were the higher price point which I feel might put people off and the fact we were missing a gemstone which would make me feel a little let down if I had gifted this to someone and it hadn’t been complete. Over all though I loved the goblet and it really is fun and novel! It would be a great gift for a hard to buy for HP fan like my hubby. I also feel it would make the perfect gift for teenagers! Maybe full of Every Flavour Beans!
