I love a drink at Christmas so was excited for Black Cow Vodka’s Limited Edition Christmas Spirit to arrive. Advertised as including all the ingredients of a Christmas pudding, it sounded delicious, but I wasn’t sure how to serve. I was therefore grateful when the parcel arrived with a bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne as a serving suggestion. This was a nice touch and would make a wonderful gift set.

Firstly, I want to say how nicely presented the parcel was. The vodka arrived well packaged in a branded box with branded tissue paper and complete with the cow logo, it felt premium and was instantly recognisable as a Black Cow Vodka delivery. Upon opening there was also a nice handwritten note.

There wasn’t a lot of information on the bottle but something unique is that Black Cow Vodka is made “purely from milk.” In my opinion this is what gives it a smooth base to the drink. Furthermore, the reason Black Cow Vodka is made from milk is due it its founders seeing how much milk was being wasted from their forefathers’ cheese making. Black Cow Vodka is an innovative biproduct that is made from the milk left after making this cheese, which means less waste and a great outcome of velvety smooth vodka.

I wanted to have a sip before serving with the champagne to taste it on its own as an aperitif. Without looking, the flavours that come through are cinnamon, orange peel, clove and a hint of spice. Although, when I looked after they are listed as Black Cow vodka, brown sugar, currants, figs, raisins, orange zest, lemon zest, cinnamon and vanilla. Black Cow Vodka’s Christmas spirit is a nice warming festive drink on the rocks as is and Christmas in a bottle sums this drink up perfectly!

Next up, I tried the Christmas Vodka with the champagne as recommended. Something to note, my partner who detests champagne (I know very strange) really enjoyed the pairing. What is especially nice is that the champagne does not detract away from the spirit, which could still easily be tasted. It smelt aromatic and is a refreshing treat when served chilled with ice as well.

Without a doubt, this is going to be our Christmas go to next year because it is easy to make and we both loved the taste; it has the perfect flavours for the time of year. I was also curious if there were any other recipes available for the Christmas spirit on the Black Cow website and on looking there are several appealing alternatives to the champagne mix, including Super Simple Eggnog and Christmas Spirit Hot Chocolate or mulled in hot cloudy apple juice.

Black Cow Christmas spirit would also make a lovely gift, or just as a nice warming tipple over the winter to keep those Christmas vibes alive well into January. I am looking forward to trying the other recipes above too.
