Dreamboats and Miniskirts is currently performing at the Theatre Royal in Windsor until the 16 August 2014. It is the sequel to very popular musical “Dreamboats and Petticoats” and here is the short story behind it: It’s 1963, and the world is changing. Bobby and Laura’s hit single “Dreamboats and Petticoats” has not taken off. Norman and Sue have settled down to non-marital bliss – and a baby! But Ray and Donna seem blissfully happy….
I have not seen the first musical (but I definitely want to after tonight’s performance!) which tells the story about all the youngsters in 60s and early 50s in the rock ’n’ roll era and is very much a “jukebox” musical.
In Dreamboats and Miniskirts each song which was sung and performed live from the cast was part of the storyline and the harmony especially between the 3 main characters Laura, Donna and Sue was amazing.
The musical wasn’t purely singing but also had some speaking parts which included a lot of witty banter and the facial expression of the cast were brilliant and very entertaining. It had the whole audience amused!
The show managed to capture the interest of all ages from young to old and many people in the audience where singing along to the songs.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening not to be missed!
I would give it 4.5 out of 5 stars!
