An alternative spin on a classic fairy tale
As we know and are frequently told, there are always two sides to every story. We also need to weigh the evidence of both arguments before making up our minds. This time, it’s time for the wolf to give his version of events of what happened in the classic fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. And answer the questions we have all waited years to be answered. Did he eat Grandma? Did she taste nice? And didn’t you run away?
We were excited about the performance as we had never seen a classic tale told from an alternative point of view.
Wolf’s story is told by a girl called Robyn, from her bedroom.
A range of props, lights and sounds are used to tell Wolf’s story and bring it to life.
The story is engaging from start to finish with a fast-paced 50-minute performance.
The use of light, sound and adapted everyday items was genius and fundamental in the execution of the story.
There are scenes of dark humour, combined with sound and darker lighting to emphasise the scene; viewers under the age of 6 or a more sensitive nature might be a bit scared by these scenes at times. I would definitely recommend it for over 6 years old (recommended age is 6 years). I attend a 6 & 9 year old. There were a couple of times the 6-year-old grabbed my hand for reassurance.
As a family, we loved Big Bad Me. We found it funny and captivating. At the same time, it gets across the message of acceptance, differences and friendship. Don’t tell Little Red Riding Hood, but we are team Wolf and believe him!!!
I loved that it made my children think outside of the box and consider how Wolf felt and what actually happened.
I don’t want to spoil Wolf’s limelight by giving away what we found out.
If you’re wanting a family performance that is different to any other, Big Bad Me is highly recommended.
