I was delighted to receive the Spike the Hedgehog Sensory Tree House to review and I’m looking forward to watching my 2 year old granddaughter playing with it. When I choose a toy I prefer those that have an educational element to them and this one fits the bill perfectly. Learning Resources say on their website ‘A great educational toy is one where children have so much fun playing, they don’t realise they’re learning. Designed for play, all our toys and games are created to be fun and engaging to use. We make toys that will capture your child’s attention, offer multiple ways to play and express their creativity, and challenge them to explore and learn while enjoying themselves.’

The Tree House comes packaged in a blue, green and white cardboard box with lovely images of the products on up the outside. Inside the box each item was individually wrapped in plastic bags which I found to be unnecessary as it was not giving any form of protection to the toys nor did they need it.
The contents of the box are:
The Tree House which is in two parts, the trunk which is brown and the top of the tree which is turquoise.
Five Spike hedgehogs numbered from one to five and each in different colours, blue, green, purple, red and orange all with different textures.
Activity Guide which includes fun ways to play.
All the Hedgehogs fit neatly inside the Tree House for storage.

There are a number of ways the Sensory Tree House can be used to engage little ones and the Activity Guide gives instructions on how Spike the Hedgehog can help to teach many different skills and the Spikes are a great size for little hands to grip and hold.
As the product is suitable for children aged 18+ months, the activities can be built upon over time. For example to begin with simply stacking the Spikes, or identifying the different colours/numbers may be sufficient, however as your little one develops, then more complex games like putting the Spikes into a rainbow order or describing the shapes and textures will stimulate further learning in their own time. The Activity Guide also suggests hiding one Spike in the Tree House and encouraging the little one to work out which one is missing which again can assist with learning essential pre school skills.
The Spike the Fine Motor Hedgehog Sensory Tree House is part of a wide range of toys suitable for under 2’s. The Learning Resources website says ‘Designed to inspire toddlers to explore, discover and learn more about their world through hands-on play, these fun and engaging educational toys and games will help little learners get ready to take on the world. Each one of our products has been designed to help your little ones develop key early skills: motor and social skills, colour and shape recognition, basic counting and the alphabet. There’s endless fun, exploration and discovery on the cards while learning through hands-on play.’
I know my granddaughter will have endless hours of fun with this toy and I can’t wait to spend quality time encouraging her to learn.
