Some Guys Have all the Luck at the Waterside Theatre Aylesbury Review

We attended Aylesbury Waterside Theatre last night (26 July 2018) to see Some Guys Have all the Luck – The Rod Stewart Story, a show that’s a tribute to the living legend Rod Stewart. The Waterside is by far my favourite theatre so easy to get to, good nearby parking and always plenty of staff on the bar so you have time to grab a quick drink prior to taking your seat.

Right from the off, I was amazed by the quality of the band and the vocals. The first half is extremely informative, Paul Metcalfe (aka Rod Stewart) tells some wonderful stories, all true I might add, interwoven with Rod’s early hits. He has an amazing likeness to Rod Stewart, in all aspects, although I have to say he has the skinniest legs I’ve seen this year, doesn’t affect his singing mind! He is awesome. It didn’t take long for the audience to get to their feet dancing and singing along to so many hits we all knew.

Too many favourites to list, loved Handbags and Gladrags, Maggie May, Baby Jane, Tonight’s the Night, Sailing and of course Do ya think I’m sexy. You won’t see a better act this year. This show has something for all ages and if you like nothing more than a good rock night out you won’t be disappointed. There were very few left sitting in their seats by the middle of the second half. The talented musicians supporting were fabulous. Not sure who wins out, the saxophone player or the two guitarists, they were all very very good. The whole audience cheered until they returned for an encore of Maggie May, which was awesome.

The show is a real rock revelation I would highly recommend. I’m pretty sure if you closed your eyes you would have thought you were listening to the Rod Stewart, Paul Metcalfe and crew you rocked it, we had the best time and can’t wait to see you again!
