Lucky Fortune Review

Surprise Bracelet Inside

Reviewed by Louise Totton

One thing that my two, and seemingly every other primary-school aged girl loves are blind bags and collectables. I have no idea what it is with them, but the kids are mad on them and whenever they see the latest one advertised on TV, they become desperate for them! They don’t strike it lucky very often, and as yet, there aren’t many that I’ve caved and bought for them. Weirdly, they seem to like watching YouTube videos of other kids opening them almost as much as they like opening themselves so I’ve tended to just leave them to watch the videos rather than fill the house up with even more plastic.

I have to say though, that even I was intrigued with the new Lucky Fortunes from WowWee – little collectable fortune cookie shaped blind bags that each contain a printed fortune, a set of lucky numbers and a collectable charm bracelet. The package also contains the usual list of different charms that you can collect, along with their ‘rareness’ level and what we used to call a chatterbox when we were at school,

These actually look really sweet, and each of the fortune cookies is also trimmed with a pastel shade – either pink, lilac, turquoise or periwinkle blue. The cookies are popped open, and you will find the bracelet wrapped with the fortune inside – the fortune giving a clue as to the charm on the bracelet. The kids really liked that you can also reuse the fortunes as they are decent quality plastic and they clip open and closed too.

There are 100 of the bracelets to collect – each one features a differently coloured cord and a collectable enamel charm, as well as a fortune cookie shaped ‘golden’ charm on the end. The bracelets are also infinitely adjustable, so they fit my 10-year-old, my 7-year-old and me, with just a quick adjustment. The charms are all very sweet and on-trend, featuring stars, cupcakes, hashtags, unicorns, rainbows and more, with the ultimate aim being to find the Ultra Lucky golden four-leaved clover.

The kids thought these were great (what little girl wouldn’t?), and thoroughly enjoyed opening them, reading their fortunes and ticking off on their sheet which charm they had just collected. Things like this are never cheap, and these are just about at a pocket money level. I’m not sure they are something that I would buy for the kids for anything other than a special treat, but if the kids wanted to spend their pocket money on them, I would let them do so. it’s nice that they’re not just a piece of plastic for the sake of collecting them, and that they do get something that they can wear and enjoy out of their blind bag. They also look really effective when they are worn, especially if they are wearing several of them at once. My girls have also each given one to their best friend as a friendship bracelet.
