I have just spent another fabulous evening at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable watching The Searchers.
After arriving and parking the car in the spacious (free after 7pm) car park, we took a short walk over to the theatre. It was as usual, very busy in the foyer with lots of couples and groups of people all laughing and chattering waiting for tonight’s entertainment. We picked up our tickets from the friendly staff in the reception area. We then got our drinks after a short wait at the bar. We then went in to the auditorium and we’re shown to our seats.
As usual, had a great view of the stage. At 7.30pm the curtain rose and The Searchers appeared on stage. There are 2 original of the 4 members, Frank Allen and John Mcnally who are 71 and 73 respectively and 2 others, Spencer James and Scott Ottaway. They opened the show by playing a few slower numbers whilst chatting to the audience in between. It’s amazing that they have been around for 53 years! They were very informative of all the stars they had met over those years. Some of their hit songs they played included Needles and Pins, Don’t Throw Your Love Away, Sugar and Spice and Sweets for my Sweet. They also played hits from other artists and the guitar playing was second to none. They also chatted to their hardened fans who follow them whenever they appear.
By the second half of the show the majority of the audience were up dancing, it was a fabulous atmosphere. When they tried to close the show the audience was shouting for more and they done melody of all the well-known hits which was very well accepted.
They also appeared after the show in the foyer, so that people could get autographs and have photos taken with them.
All in all it was a very entertaining evening and I would give a 5 star rating.
