This is a hilarious comedy based upon the TV characters Cissie and Ada and the actors who played them, Les Dawson and Roy Barraclough. I was expecting some sort of re-creation of memorable sketches but actually the play followed the lives of Les and Roy from the BBC stage in the 1970s to the death of Les in 1993.

Cissie and Ada are played by Eric Potts and Steve Nallon, with scriptwriter Terry played by Steven Arnold and dresser Sandra played by Natasha Nagigi.

I must admit that at the beginning of the performance I was a little confused, not quite knowing where the play was taking me but soon I was laughing out loud at Eric’s deadpan delivery of Les’s famously earthy lines. Steve was particularly convincing delivering both entertaining lines as Cissie and also some quite moving pieces as Roy.

The two highlights for me were the sequence where Natasha imitated Les playing Ada, her facial expressions were brilliant; also Eric adlibbing and inserting extra Les-style gags – his performance was perfect.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable evening out, I would definitely recommend this show as we never stopped laughing from start to finish.
