Spot’s First Christmas by Eric Hall Review

Reviewed by Nicola Mccallum

The one book I always remember reading as a child was “Where’s Spot” and now I have children of my own my love of the book has been passed on to my three boys. When the book arrived the metallic red cover really captured my boy’s attention and I was ordered to read it straight away.

As a lover of the original Spot books this did not disappoint. The traditional flaps are in abundance and after a week of being read at least 5 times a day the flaps showed little sign on wear and were able to withstand two excitable twins fighting over whose turn it was to lift the flap.

This book covered many different aspects of Christmas like present wrapping, tree decorating, carol singers and an excitable spot unable to contain his excitement. Even after reading this book several dozen times my boys are still requesting to read this through again and with its durable thick pages I can see it standing the test of time.

This book appeals not only to the toddler age range but it has also been a book that my 5 year old son has picked up and enjoyed. With its simple bold text he has started to try and read this book independently and again he has enjoyed the different dimension of lifting the flaps.

This feel this book is exceptional value for money and I hope that Spot’s First Christmas will be a book that is remembered by my boys in years to come.
