Everyone knows the Nickelodeon character SpongeBob Squarepants, my 6 year old son loves him and this set allows you to make your own characters. I think the packaging is fantastic it is made to look like the bright yellow pineapple which Spongebob stays in with the porthole showing two finished keyrings. Included in the pack are assorted coloured beads, 2 keyrings, 2 peg boards, 2 ironing sheets and instructions. The instructions allow you to make 4 characters, SpongeBob, Patrick, Gary and Plankton. The instructions are quite easy to follow and Craig managed on his own to make Plankton and Gary. He needed a bit of help with SpongeBob and we have still to make Patrick. The beads are fiddly but I think this is a fun way to improve their hand to eye co-ordination. It would be helpful if a tub was included in the set to keep the beads in after you have opened the packet.
I had two complaints with this set. One was that it was tricky to transport the finished item to the ironing board, I bumped it and a lot of the beads came off so I had to put them back on. I was super careful with the next one. My second complaint was that the ironing instructions were very vague. I didn’t iron it long enough the first time and the beads came off and then when I did it again I think I overdid some parts of it. I have only taken ½ a mark of my review mark though as Craig was absolutely delighted with the set and actually sat and made two straight after each other. For any parent of a 6 year old boy they will know that any activity that gets them to sit still in the same place for more than ten minutes is a winner.
I would definitely recommend this set it was brilliant fun and we really enjoyed making our creations.
