Splash About Thermaswim Toddler Suit Review

With my three your old daughter about to embark on swimming lessons imminently, it couldn’t have been a more opportune moment to be offered the chance to review the Splash About Thermaswim Toddler Suit.

The Thermaswim Toddler Suit arrived really quickly, in a standard plastic envelope. Inside the envelope the suit was packaged in a clear cellophane wrapper. Nice and simple! My first impression of the Toddler Suit when I opened the package was how super soft it felt.

In terms of appearance, the Toddler Suit is quite basic – it was plain black in colour (with a small Splash About badge on the arm). The suit only comes in black, which for me, is unusual for a product aimed at toddlers, but also means that it’s suitable for boys and girls and I guess it takes away any umming and ahhing over which design to choose.

The suit resembled a wetsuit; with ¾ length sleeves and knee-length, with a zip down the front to facilitate putting the suit on and taking it off again. However, it is much more lightweight, perfect for toddlers. This suit is designed to either be worn as a stand-alone swimsuit or underneath a wetsuit (for external water activities only). Inside the Toddler Suit is brush-fleece lined, adding to the super soft feeling of this item.

The Thermaswim Toddler Suit is available in 2 different sizes, ages 2-4 years and 4-6 years. As my daughter is three years old, I opted for the age 2-4 suit. When I tried this on my daughter, it fitted like a glove. Nice and cosy and she looked really comfortable in it. For info, Splash About also offer a Thermaswim Baby Suit, which is available in 3 different sizes from 3 months.

The suits are designed so that a swimming nappy can be worn comfortably underneath, should that be necessary.

We headed off to the pool for a spot of general swimming. As predicted, it was so easy to get the suit on before our swim and off, once we had finished. We generally use the learner pool, at our local swimming pool, which is a tad warmer than the main pool. So, my daughter was nice and warm for the duration of our swim. Please note, this suit shouldn’t be worn in pools where the water is over 32°C, due to risk of overheating.

The flexibility of the material allowed full movement, without any restrictions, which is ideal, as my daughter likes to splash around, climb out of the pool and launch herself back in and she had no difficulties in doing any of that. It was also relatively easy to get her armbands over the suit due to the close fit of the material.

Having a son who’s already been having swimming lessons for the last couple of years, I know the children have to spend quite a bit of time sat on the side of the pool awaiting their turn, so at least I no longer have the worry of my daughter sat shivering on the side of the pool, now she has this suit to wear.

An important point to note is this toddler suit is hand wash only in cool water and needs to be dried out of direct sunlight (needless to say it shouldn’t be ironed or tumble dried). It washed well and dried quickly, keeping its shape.

The Thermaswim Toddler Suit has an RRP of £16, which I believe is entirely reasonable for a product such as this and I would happily pay this price for it.

As well as the Toddler Thermasuits, Splash About have a wide range of other products on offer, such as Baby Wetsuits, Swimming Nappies as well as Adult Swimming items. The full range can be viewed here: https://www.splashabout.com/

Another functionality of this suit is that it can be worn under regular clothes, in a dry environment on a particularly cold day. This isn’t something that I’ve tried at the point of writing this review, but I will definitely consider it, with winter just around the corner.

Splash About offer 10% off of your first delivery, if you sign up to their newsletter. They also offer free economy shipping for orders over £9.99, which I think is brilliant (£2.99 cost for orders below £9.99).

In summary, I loved the product and my daughter was happy to wear it. It’s a great product, at a great price. I only wish that it came in other designs or colours like some of the other products from Splash About. That would be my only criticism. Otherwise, I’ll be recommending the product to my friends with children of a similar age. Bring on the swimming lessons!
