Intro
As a big Beatles fan I was excited to see this show which is a musical tribute telling the George Harrison Story. The tour started in 2023 – celebrating what would have been Georges 80th birthday and has been popular so is continuing in 2024.
Booking & getting there.
Tickets can be bought either on the website or by calling the box office for the tour (see details below).
The theatre I attended is situated just off the ring road, junction 7 in Coventry with buses stopping right outside. There is a multi-story car park 100m from the Theatre entrance on Butts Road (pay on exit). Prices range from £0.50 for an hour, to £5.00 for 24 hours. Saturday-Sunday parking is £3.00 all day.
Venue & facilities
A lovely local theatre, run as a charity with a team of volunteers. There is a café and bar for refreshments pre performance and during the interval.
Review
What a great tribute to the great George Harrison. The story of Georges life after the Beatles split was told by the lead singer through words and songs. The five piece band were amazing and played many songs throughout the show – some well known and others not so much but all having a story as to why George had written them. The songs included some from the Fab Four, Georges solo career and from the Travelling Wilburys. Daniel Taylor – the lead singer and narrator told the story with lots of emotion and the audience felt that he had known George. The many quotes from George were narrated in a Liverpudlian accent as if he was really speaking. His voice was amazing as were the voices of the other members of the band who did the backing vocals.
The band consisted of a lead guitarist who did some fantastic solos, a base guitarist, a drummer and a keyboard player. They were all really great and gave the audience a brilliant evening of music of a very high standard. I learned many facts about George that I did not know as Daniel went through his life of many ups and downs right up to when he passed away in 2001, an emotional part of the story. The staging of films showing in the background whilst the band were playing was done very well and ranged from peaceful countryside scenes, crazy street and traffic scenes in Bangladesh and phots. It was subtle and did not distract from the music.
I would definitely recommend this show to anybody who was a fan of the Beatles or is interested in what happened to George Harrison after the Beatles split up – it was certainly very interesting and entertaining.
