Slime. It’s been a craze for a few years now. It all began with just basic pots of slime that could be squelched and stretched and moulded but now there is a much wider range of slime based playsets to expand on slime play. One such toy is the newly released So Slime DIY Ice Cream Factory which is suitable for six plus years. So Slime DIY have a range of slime based sets with the Ice Cream Factory being their latest release in August. For some parents slime is their worst nightmare. It’s sticky, gooey and messy but I feel it is definitely worth the clean up time as it’s a great way to keep children busy through the school holidays.

The So Slime DIY Ice Cream Factory arrived packaged in a large, colourful box. Inside the box is all the kit you need to create ten slime sundaes using your very own ice cream factory. I like the concept that rather than just the sensory play of slime this also gets children being creative, imaginative and role playing. There are six bags of slime mix included in three different varieties of slime. They just need water adding to the mixture and are then ready to use, hence being do it yourself slime.

Once we got the slime mixed up my children started making their ice cream creations. There is ice slime that can then be scooped with the ice cream scoop provided into cones. There is also fluffy slime that can be put into the factory and then squeezed out by pushing in the button. Just like making a Mr Whippy! The third type of slime is much thinner and scented. It can be placed inside a bottle and then squeezed on top like a sauce. After my children had squished, squeezed and made me ice creams they loved putting the sprinkles on top. I must say it looked impressive and it was lovely to see my children getting so stuck in. This kept them busy for a whole afternoon. Yes there was a big mess of mixed slime at the end but I’m happy they had so much fun. As well as sparking their creativity I found they enjoyed the sensory play too. The feel of the slime in their hands is fantastic for developing fine motor skills and helping concentration and independent play.

The So Slime DIY Ice Cream Factory retails at £20. I would say this is very good value for money. I’ve seen many much more basic slime sets for a similar price that don’t keep my children engaged for very long. Whereas this set includes the ice cream factory as well as four decoration bags, four charms, stickers and six accessories including scoop, cone and bowl.

Compared to many slimes we’ve played with this is not too messy however if you don’t want a mess inside this is a lovely one for some Summer fun outside.
