Splash About should be the first stop for all parents of children who are learning to swim or are around water. As it’s the school holidays swim accessories are a must-have for August, whether you’re jetting off to somewhere, or are enjoying your local swimming pool. I was keen to review a new product for Splash About as we are already owners of a couple of their products; the Happy Nappy (swim lesson approved) and a float jacket. My daughter recently started weekly swimming lessons so we have a keen interest in the latest and best pool toys. She also enjoys pool toys in the bath!

Splash About was founded in 2005 and started out with children’s float jackets and suits, award-winning staples to this day. They strive to innovate with regards to design, safety, and environmental considerations.

Splash About sent us two different toys from their new Snippets range. We received 3 seahorse dive toys and whale and stingray floats.

The seahorse is a dive toy which can be used by kids at different stages. Those who are older or more proficient swimmers can use them in the traditional sense of diving down to retrieve them from the pool floor. Kids who are in the earlier stages of learning to swim will still enjoy dropping them and attempting to catch it. This encourages them to start to put their faces into the water and is taught as part of toddler swimming lessons. They don’t immediately sink which gives them a good chance of catching them unlike some of the dive sticks.

The seahorses come in three aquatic colours with white detailing and are recognisable and cute. The colours are lovely but I felt they could be brighter to be more visible once at the bottom of the pool. For now my daughter is dropping them onto steps where they’re easily visible. The dive toys also come in a sardine design in a pack of three; they are navy, pink and green.

The stingray and whale toys float which means they’re appropriate from an even younger age. Floating toys are used not just for fun but also form a part of learning to swim as the child can throw them and then swim after them. Having something in the water that is ahead of them encourages them to reach and helps develop their arm skills. The other design for the floats is a pack of 3 starfish which look adorable in lovely bright colours – orange, pink and blue. The floats were my daughter’s favourite and she enjoyed playing with them, making them swim.

All of these products, as with other Splash About products, are eco-friendly which is always music to my ears. They are made from excess fabrics which would otherwise go to waste. From experience pool toys tend to be made from plastics and rubber (which is understandable as they’re going to get wet!) but that’s a lot of plastic overall. It’s great to have more sustainable options.

At £12 per pack (2 or 3 pieces depending on design) they are priced in line with the other leading swim and pool toy brands. I think they’d make a lovely gift for any budding swimmers.
