We already have a Skylanders game on the xBox so were delighted when the Skylanders Kimble board game arrived for review. On arrival our 10 year old could not wait to start playing.
In the box there was the plastic game board with built-in die popper which is decorated with Skylander images, 16 game pieces (4 x 4 colours) and an instruction sheet.
The idea of the game is to get all of your 4 game pieces from their start position around the edge of the game board to their goal positions in the centre of the board, the first person to get all 4 of their pieces home is the winner.
This game is aimed at children aged 5 years + and the rules are simple enough that children can easily pick up the rules. It is suitable for 2-4 players.
The youngest player starts first and presses the die popper in the centre of the board which “rolls the dice”. Then move one of your game pieces clockwise around the board. Then the next player takes there turn unless you throw a six and then you get another go. If you land in a space with another’s player’s piece already occupying it their piece is removed and returned to their home (starting) space. Once you are getting towards the goal spaces your game piece can only be moved in with the by throwing the exact number needed, so if you have 3 spaces to get your piece home you have to throw a 3, or a 1 and 2.
Skylanders Kimble is a great fun game. Game play is 15-30 minutes depending on the number of players. The rules are simple to follow and there is no skill involved, just pure luck on the pop of the die.
The board itself good quality, thick plastic so is very durable and should get years of gameplay out of it.
Excellent fun and a great way to spend time with the kids.
