I was lucky to be sent a selection of the No Show Socks by Skin Tone Socks. They are a low cut, sort of trainer sock style skin tone socks for men and women. They come in packs of 5 and there are 3 tones to choose from; fair, tan and light brown. I was sent all three colours to try out.

I regularly wear trainer socks, but these are usually black or white depending on which trainers I wear. I have never had ones that were skin toned though so it’s nice to have more options on the market. I have the usual sock material ones, sport ones and the ones that are very thin, low cut style so that they are invisible. I must have very odd feet because in all the years that I have tried trainer socks, they never stay up properly. I have had ones that slide down the heel and stay there, but then others, admittedly cheaper brands ones, that end up riding down your whole foot in your shoe and end up bunching in the arch of your foot which is just irritation.

These no show socks are of a thin sock material that are very comfortable. The anti slip strip at the back of the sock is a pretty decent size and, to my surprise, actually does stop the sock from slipping down your heel, even on my odd feet. I was genuinely chuffed about this, more than the fact they were available in different skin tones.

I am a British Indian with size 5 feet and out of the 3 tones, the tan are probably the most suitable for me, but to be honest, since receiving them I have happily worn all 3 tones because they look so much better when I wear my trainers compared to my usual black or white socks.

Last week, before the schools shut down due to the corona virus, I had worn them all day round the house and then slipped on my Ugg boots to go and collect the kids. Uggs are not designed to wear with the socks but I figured this would be a good test for the anti slippability. Well, even the friction between the thick sheep’s wool couldn’t bring these down! What a result!

My husband is white British and skin tone wise, the fair socks are the closest colour for him. He has size 13 feet so unfortunately the sock we had, large 9-12, were just a tad too snug on him. I have size 5 feet and the large socks were a little too big but to be honest, the anti slip strip has kept them staying up so it’s not too much of an issue. Once these are totally worn through, I will definitely repurchase these in the medium 5-8 size. I have washed them a few times and so far, the socks have not shrunk, nor has the slip strip reduced in efficiency. They really are brilliant quality.

Where these socks will come into their own is for my work shoes. I have leather brogues which look silly with white or black socks so I tend to wear them with bare feet. These socks, being skin toned, breathable and low cut will be perfect for my brogues and will prolong the life of them too. A win-win situation. Now to get rid of all my other redundant trainer socks!
