As a family we have often chosen to visit Sizzling Pubs for their affordability and quality food so when I was asked to review The Pottery in Pontypridd I was excited to see what this branch had to offer.
The pub is conveniently located on the Treforest industrial estate. It is very easy to find. From the outside The Pottery is a really unassuming building. However the property has easily accessible and ample parking for its patrons. When we entered the Pottery we were immediately greeted by warm and friendly staff who helped us rearrange furniture as we attended with our 2 year old twin sons therefore requiring chairs to be changed to high chairs. Staff were really accommodating and was able to provide us with lovely clean equipment for our little boys.
The Friday evening we visited there were a number of patrons in the building and the atmosphere was really relaxed. My children were made to feel really welcome when a member of staff provided children’s activity sheets and crayons. It made entertaining them while waiting for our food a lot easier. As with all Sizzling Pubs, in the Pottery when you arrive you simply find a table suitable for yourself, make your menu selections and order at the bar in your own time and at your own convenience. This kind of scenario really suits our family as we can be as quick as we need to be sometimes or take what may seem to be a lifetime to choose on other occasions as we often have to juggle the fun and games of toddlers.
The menu is extensive and has a real variety of choice from the classic pub grub to some amazing from the grill dishes. The menu caters well for all appetites with your average sized portions appealing to most then some real monster meals for those with a monster appetite to match. The price of dishes are very reasonable with some meals costing as little as £4.39. There is also the option of two meals for £6.50 all day from Monday to Friday. These prices are very manageable for an average family treat also there are offers available for families like children eat for £1 on a Monday again this makes the family meal out much more accessible. The children’s menu was lovely with a good range that included the usual children’s meals like chicken nuggets and the different build your own chicken wraps. I went to the bar to order and was helped by a very polite member of staff. She was happy to make recommendations and herself commented on the quality of the dishes on the new menu.
We wait a little for our meal but no more than you would expect for a menu prepared to order. When the meals arrived they were all beautifully presented and piping hot. All the dishes on our table looked delicious. I, feeling very hungry, tried the Triple Decker Deluxe burger. It was huge. It was a 6oz burger, chicken breast burger, pulled pork and salad all served on a brioche bun. It was served with lovely chips. The burger was incredibly flavoursome. Although I made a real mess eating it I enjoyed every luscious mouthful. At £7.99 this is a very reasonably priced mega meal. My husband feasted on the mega mixed grill. The cuts of meat on his plate were amazing. The quality of product was evident there in front of us. Flavoursome sausages, steak cooked to perfection and juicy chicken breasts all satisfied easily my husband the definite carnivore. Again for a big meal with quality meat the price tag of £10.99 was very affordable. The children both enjoyed their meals of chicken nuggets and chips and pasta and garlic bread. They staff again really helped us make it a good experience for the twins by providing use with teaspoons where necessary and generally making a big fuss of my little men.
This pub is a real family friendly establishment. Its prices are excellent and the quality of food and service superb. I would visit again in a heartbeat. We give the Pottery a fantastic 5 out of 5.
