As my friend and I arrived at a Buxton Opera House for Sing-a-long-a Grease, we immediately felt rather underdressed! As far as the eye could see, there were pink wigs, black quiffs and every other Grease themed fancy dress outfit and accessory you could imagine. There were all sorts of people gathering from school groups to hen nights but it has to be said, very few men in sight! I did spot the odd one or two though.

The night began with a 30 minute ‘warm up’, thankfully of the vocal kind! We were taught some simple dance moves and rehearsed yelling out certain lines during the film. Then the people in fancy dress were invited onto the stage to show off their costumes, which raised a few giggles. The audience were then asked to vote for their favourite with the winners being given small prizes. We were certainly raring to go by the time the film started!

There was a great atmosphere during the film and once we let ourselves fully relax, it was fantastic fun singing along to all the Grease classics. It helped that the words were on the screen (along with amusing animations) so you could really go for it… and go for it we did! Everybody was clearly having a good time.

As always, Buxton Opera house is a fantastic venue. I always find the staff to be enthusiastic and helpful. Free car parking is available after 6pm at the Pavillion Gardens just a two minute walk away.

The show speaks for itself really. If you are Grease fan, love singing along and are game for a laugh, this is the night for you!
