Last night my husband, my children (ages 14 and 11 years) and I visited the Moor Mill Beefeater Grill Restaurant in St Albans. The 25 minute journey from Dunstable to the restaurant was quite straight forward following our satnav.

As we arrived and drove in we were pleasantly surprised by how lovely the restaurant looked from the outside. There was a beautiful stream running up the drive way with ducks all around, with plenty of car parking spaces close to the restaurant.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a smart friendly gentleman named Tom, who promptly showed us to our table. The restaurant was very clean and had a nice warm atmosphere to it. It wasn’t very busy as it was early evening. We were given menus and asked what we would like to drink as we waited for our waitress, Laura. Our drinks arrived soon after we ordered. There was lots of choice on the menu, but we didn’t feel like we were rushed to decide. My daughter was given a children’s menu but being a fussy eater she always has barbecue ribs when we eat out. Unfortunately they didn’t have those on the children’s menu so we opted for them from the adults.

Our polite and friendly waitress Laura was quick to come and take our order. Our meals arrived about 25 minutes after the order was taken. My husband ordered the Mixed Grill. This was steak, chicken, gammon steak, sausage, egg, mushrooms, tomato, onion rings and chips. It was a good sized meal, cooked really well, and he really enjoyed it. My son had the double bacon and cheese steak burger, with chips and coleslaw. His eyes lit up when he saw the size of the mouth-watering burger arrive. He really enjoyed it too, and loved the homemade coleslaw. My daughter loved the ribs, this came with chips, onions rings and coleslaw. She really surprised us by eating most of the adult size meal.

I went for the slow-cooked beef on the Sunday Lunch menu. This was a succulent shoulder of beef cooked medium and garnished with sprig of thyme. This arrived along with crunchy roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables and rich gravy. There was also a choice of extras on the Sunday lunch menu so I decided to try the creamy cauliflower cheese, which was very nice indeed.

Throughout our time eating, our friendly waitress checked on us several times, to make sure we had everything we needed. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Our drinks were refills, and we were offered a top up whenever our glasses looked empty.

I popped to the toilet during our meal, it was very well signposted and easy to find. There was only one toilet in the ladies but it was very clean and tidy.

Once we had finished our meals our table was cleared quickly and we were offered the dessert menu.

My children ordered the Rocky Road sundae each. We decided to upgrade on my daughter’s sundae for an extra £1.99 so I could share it with her. They arrived a few minutes later, and were absolutely delicious. The waitress gave us 2 spoons for our shared sundae as it was so big, and even joked about having an extra spoon for my husband, which in the end that’s just what we did!

On our way out we were blown away by the beautiful historic sights of the running mill and wishing well that was inside the restaurant.

Overall we really enjoyed our visit to the Beefeater Grill. The location, food, service and value for money was second to none. We couldn’t really fault it. We will definitely be returning again in the future.
