I took one of my girlie friends to see Sing-a-long-a Dirty Dancing at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable. There have been a few Sing-a-long-a shows at the grove – The Sound of Music, Abba and Grease. I basically saw Dirty Dancing and wanted to go but knowing anything about us because I love the film and the stage show.
I wasn’t sure what it was going to be. We basically watched the film and sang along when the words were on the screen.
It’s a really surreal experience. On arrival we were give a goodie bag of “props” including a green balloon (our water melon) and maracas to name a few.
The first 10/15 minutes there’s a compare / host who must have been transported there from a cheesy caravan holiday park somewhere. She talked us through our goodie bag, when to sing and join in and things we had to shout out! Like when the party lights start we had to get up and dance.
It’s defiantly one for the girls and you need to be a fan of the film. As it was a Thursday night we were both driving. I think you might need a glass of wine of 2 to fully enjoy it!! There were quite a few groups of friends giving it 150%. We enjoyed our night and would go again if it was a film we liked.
In summary. It’s a karaoke film with panto style banter and slightly like you are in the twilight zone!!
Worth going for a fun night out with the girls.
Rating: 3.5/5
