Silver Blades (Altrincham) Review

Silver Blades

Reviewed by Brian Grehan

We had 3 very excited girls’ days before our trip to the skating rink. Myself and a friend arrived at the rink with our children and parked easily in the nearby pay and display car park. The parking charge was reasonable during the week and free on a Sunday. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly member of admissions staff. Entrance prices are very reasonable.

Once admitted we went to get our skates and were helped by another very helpful member of staff and the manager. We put on our skates and entered the ice rink. Two of the girls confidently skated around for a little while whilst the 3rdchild was a bit more apprehensive. After a while we decided to get the girls a penguin each. A penguin helps you balance while skating and give you confidence on the ice. The hire charge for these was £3 for 30 minutes per penguin, very reasonable we thought.  It was clear that there was such a range of ice skating ability out on the ice that day yet it was lovely to see people having such fun. There were a few ice marshalls who were on hand to help anybody who was having difficulties on the ice. There were also instructors who were coaching people of an advanced level. Whilst we didn’t stay for the whole session, the session length is very generous, from the morning until quite late afternoon.

The facilities were all immaculate and there is also an onsite restaurant when you can grab a bite to eat afterwards.

The girls thought that the ice-skating was ‘awesome’ and had such a blast.  It was lovely to see the girls bonding. The eldest girl was helping one of the younger girls. The children have already asked when they can go back for another session.

Facilities: 5/5
Staff helpfulness: 5/5
Fun factor: 5/5
Value for money: 5/5
