What a good show!!! I saw Shrek The Musical last night with my 14 year old son and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Lowry Theatre is based in Media City in Manchester and is attached to a large shopping complex. This meant that parking was easy but there was a short walk from the car park to the theatre. Parking fees can be prepaid with your theatre tickets.
Before the show we had a drink in the coffee shop and then were entertained by a choir until the theatre doors opened. Staff were on hand and keen to assist in ticket collection and answer any other questions we had. There were a few people selling official merchandise including programmes for £6 which I thought was reasonably priced. On our way into the theatre there were plenty of helpful staff to greet us and guide us to the correct seats. The theatre itself is fairly modern and well presented. The rows of seats were clean and tidy as we entered as were the toilet facilities.
Shrek The Musical is an adaptation of the first in the series of Shrek films. Shrek has to go on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona for Lord Farquaad in order to win his swamp back. The show ran for 65 minutes, a 20 minute interval followed by a further 65 minute performance. The costumes and scenery were brilliant. Costumes were bright and colourful and the way the dragon moves on stage is wonderful. I thought Lord Farquaad and Donkey stole the show with their acting and comedy timing. The show is suitable for all ages as it is fast paced, high quality singing and dancing as well as comedy aimed at children and adults.
This is definitely a production I would see again. It is well choreographed and a thoroughly entertaining evening out for all ages.
Tickets cost £36 (includes £2 booking fee).
