Short Circuit, the classic 1980’s comedy sci-fi comedy, is re-released on DVD and for the first time ever on Blu-ray on 19 November 2012.

Nova Robotics have invented an experimental military robot. After a successful demonstration Number 5 is hit by lightning and becomes alive and self-aware.

After escaping from the Nova base he finds a new home with eccentric Stephanie Speck (Ally Sheedy) who thinks is an alien from another planet. Number 5 is constantly looking for input and cannot get enough.

Trying to locate the missing robot with a hi-tech weapon on its shoulder are Dr Newton Crosby (Steve Guttenburg) and his assistant Ben (Fisher Stevens) who have to recover it before the army can blow it up.

Overall, Short Circuit is an excellent family film. Number 5, or Johnny as he becomes, creates very funny situations in his search for knowledge and his refusal to be disassembled. Kids to grandparents will love it. I loved it as a kid and it's still just as good today. A timeless classic.

Highly recommended. Great family entertainment.
