Any one that knows my daughter knows she is dog mad, she tells everyone she loves them more than anything, her favourite thing is dogs and she is desperate for her own, she owns many many stuffed toy dogs and she was absolutely thrilled to be able to add another to her collection.

This puppy is a little more special than all the others, the others were ready for a straight adoption, no care needed, all ready to get straight to tea parties and into bed for a snuggle. Pinky Sparkles (named by my daughter) however needed a little more care and attention to get her to tip top, party ready perfection.

The box she comes in is super bright, inviting, pink and cute, shaped like a handbag with a handle to hold at the top, a window to the clippers and a button to see them in action adds to the wonder. To start with you know she is going to be high maintenance, she comes with clippers! There are pictures on the box that show clipping, washing, grooming and styling and I had no idea just how involved it would be..

These special pets are aimed at children 5+ and I can now completely understand why, when you take your new cutie out of the box first of all they are in a little kennel, they come with a whole beauty salon, in each compartment there are different surprises to groom and style your puppy and there is a little empty cushion cover. The instructions are also included with slightly more information on what you are doing with your new fluffy guest.

Taking the puppy out of the kennel you see just why you need the clippers, the dog needs all of the pink fluff ‘shaved’ off, to reveal the bedraggled puppy lurking beneath. The fluff when off goes into the empty cushion cover to stuff it. This cushion would be better with a slightly better closing than just velcro as I just know I am going to end up with Pinky Sparkles fluff all around the house. Once de fluffed, your new pet needs a bath, then drying – suggested with a hairdryer – at this point, be prepared to be blow drying your child’s new pal for longer than you have spent on your own hair for the last 12 months put together! I can guarantee if your little one is anything like mine they will not sit and dry their pet for longer than a few minutes, leaving that fun to you.

Once dry, you can style, primp, preen and make the pup look beautiful, even painting toe nails with freezing water, this step in my daughter’s eyes was MAGIC!

This dog is the most involved any of my daughters animals have ever been, it has kept her occupied from the moment we got in from school for a good few hours, she loved ‘clipping’ off the fur, the bath, the towel drying, 5 minutes of hair dryer action and then combing, straightening and styling her hair. She loved the collar and hair clips and of course painting her nails was a little bit special too. The pets really do go from a complete scruff bag to a cute and cuddly pet, a huge dramatic change that I wasn’t really expecting.

So if you want a toy that is really going to engage a little one and keep them entertained for longer than just opening the box then I think this is the one for any pet lovers, I’m sure that after all the love and care that has gone into this puppy it will be a favourite for a long time to come, even if her muzzle is a little wonky. However do bare in mind you will end up helping with certain parts so only open when you have time to love your Scruff a Luv too. It would be perfect as a birthday or Christmas gift and I think represents good value for money for the amount of enjoyment and involvement we have got from it already, the accessories will be used over and over and even the box is being used as a kennel. There is a large range of Scruff A Luv pets too, so have a look if the pink dog isn’t for you.
