The best things come is small packages and that’s what we got when the Schleich Birthday Picnic set arrived on our doorstep. My 7 year old daughter is obsessed with anything miniature and if you’re anything like me then you’ll feel like a giant in your own home at times; surrounded by tiny versions of pretty much anything you can think off. Yes we have miniature people, miniature houses, miniature clothes and wardrobes, miniature food and even miniature pets. Although, thinking about it, the one miniature set that she doesn’t have is any Schleich. So this is a new miniature experience for her. I have heard of Schleich and well aware of their reputation for making animal figures.
The set we received is the Birthday Picnic set consisting of everything shown on the cardboard packet it came in: a picnic blanket, picnic basket, a birthday present, a cupcake, a bowl, a plate, two hedgehogs, a cat and of course a female figurine to enjoy the whole experience. My daughters eyes lit up when she saw it and wasted no time in getting the box open and setting up the whole picnic scenario on the living room carpet. It kept her entertained for quite a while and she loved the fact that the cupcake fits in the birthday present box although it did get stuck in the basket – which I soon released. Rearranging tiny accessories and people is something that she and many other kids can do for hours and she has also combined the whole thing with other miniature collections that she already has, to make up a whole new world according to her own imagination; showing how versatile the toys really are. I like how the toys are all really sturdy and well made with lots of attention to detail; you can tell they are a quality product!
This set is from the Farm World Collection which accounts for just one of many sets that can be collected in order to build up a whole Farm World Community. Schleich also make sets such as treehouses, a farmhouse and chicken coops among many many others. There are also options for all budgets as you can purchase individual figurines to add to the farm, such as horses, sheep, cows, dogs and cats. This is a great option, particularly when buying gifts, as it means that you can always buy additions to complement the sets that your little person already owns. Buying gifts for birthdays and events such as Easter is made much easier when you know your gift is guaranteed to be a hit and parents know it’s something they can build on in future if they want to.
Rating: I give it a 5/5. It’s a great gift for children aged between 3-8 and maybe even above!

I think the price is fair given the quality of the toys and the collectable nature of the Schleich name. If you want something that will last and also be played with for hours, then I think this is a great toy that’s really versatile and will open up lots of options for additional presents in the future.
