Most teenagers nowadays are into their skincare, haircare and make up. And as generations come and go, so do the trends. Gone are the days of ironing your hair polka straight (with an actual iron!) Now it is all about texture and wave, which is what the SBB Wavemaker Triple Barrel Waver claims to have down to a tee. I was kindly sent one to test out and review.
The waver arrived well packaged. The inner packaging for the actual waver itself was minimal but more than adequate for keeping the tool protected. The outer packaging is very bright and would definitely catch a pre-teen/teenager’s eye on the shelf!
The tool itself isn’t heavy, which was just what I wanted – when you have long, thick hair, the last thing you want are heavy styling tools. Arm ache anyone? Despite it not being heavy, it felt sturdy, not flimsy at all.
In my opinion, the aesthetics indicate that this styling tool is geared towards the younger amongst us. The waver itself is black, but the hint of pink (along with the outer packaging) makes it feel that bit more teenager/adolescently. However, as a 40-year-old woman, the pink didn’t bother me at all.
Using the waver was really easy. The cable is a 2m long swivel, which is great ergonomically as you’re moving the tool around to get all that hair waved!
The tool has a digital variable heat setting which ranges from 120°C to 210°C which is perfect as it allows you to decide what is better suited for your hair. If it is thinner or damaged, go lower. For thicker, coarser or harder to style hair, you can go higher. The waver is a triple barrel (25mm barrels) and features ceramic barrels infused with macadamia and argan super shine oils. This, along with the heat choice feature allows you to style your hair without overly damaging it.
It heats up really quickly. The light will stop flashing when the waver is at heat and ready to use – so simple.
When I first opened the packaging, I was happy to find a heat protective glove, but a little disappointed at the lack of heat proof mat. However, when I started actually using the tool, I discovered that it has a handy little stand attached to it which means that it doesn’t actually touch any surface you put it down on – so no chance of burn marks on your carpet or furniture.
Another brilliant safety feature is that it auto shuts off after 60 minutes. So no more worrying if you’ve left it on after leaving the house (we’ve all done it!)
My hair is long (mid back) and really thick. I started off with day 2 hair, straight and knot free. I sectioned my hair into 6 and needed to go down each section 3 times to wave all my hair – holding for around 6 seconds. I am no mathematician, but due to the size of the waver, I can tell you that I did my whole head in less than 10 minutes, which is unheard of for me.
It was really easy to do and I loved the finished look, it looked really natural and beachy. I am not sure how much the “macadamia and argan oils” did, but I can tell you that my hair didn’t look crispy or dry!
I top knotted it overnight and was happy to see that my hair still had a wave to it the next day. I went over a couple of bits, which took no time at all, and it looked good as new again.
This waver would make a fantastic gift for a teenager (or anyone who loves hair styling to be honest!) and at £39.99, won’t break the bank. I have noticed a few offers on it as well, so keep an eye out for those.
