Like many hay fever sufferers you’ve probably tried everything in an attempt to alleviate your symptoms.

According to the NHS, hay fever is a common allergy that causes sneezing, coughing, a runny or blocked nose, headache and loss of smell. If that wasn’t enough there’s the itchy throat, mouth, nose ears and eyes to contend with! Symptoms are usually worse between late March and September, especially when it’s warm, humid and windy. This is when the pollen count is at its highest. Hay fever can last for weeks or months, unlike a cold, which usually goes away after 1 to 2 weeks. While you cannot cure it, there are things you can do to help your symptoms, or medicines you can take to help.

Hay Band is a drug free acupressure band. By using acupressure, the Hay Band aims to embrace over four thousand years of traditional Chinese methods. Hay Band can be used by both adults and children (over 3 years). Because it’s drug free, Hay Band does not cause drowsiness or have any other side effects. Acupressure works in a similar way to acupuncture but does not involve the piercing of the skin in any way. Instead, the pressure points are stimulated from the outside – a technique which has been a part of Chinese medicine for 4,000 years. It is believed that an illness or other condition is due to a blockage or disruption in the flow of energy along the meridians within the body. Stimulation of the pressure points helps release the blockage so allowing the energy to flow freely and return the body back to its natural balance. Each pressure point is believed to be related to specific parts of the body so a different point would be used to help treat a headache and other symptoms.

In the case of the Hay Band, the acupressure point stimulated is the LI-11 also known as the  QuiChi point.

The Hay Band is an acupressure band which fits around the arm at the elbow and attached to the inside is a plastic stud. The plastic stud on the inside of the band applies pressure and stimulates the LI-11 (or QuiChi) pressure point. Traditional Chinese medicine uses the stimulation of this point to relieve the symptoms of allergies including hay fever.

The manufacturer recommends that the band is worn on either arm and ideally worn before your symptoms begin or once they have started. If necessary, it can be used with any other drugs to alleviate symptoms. The band is latex free and drug free with no known side effects. I particularly like that this band provides a drug free option to children but the band must be a snug fit to function correctly on them.
