The Sizzling Pub Review

The Sizzling Pub

We recently paid a lunchtime visit to the Sizzling Pub in Leicester Road, Luton.

We were given a friendly welcome by Bruce who was serving behind the bar.

We quickly found a table and browsed the menu.  The other adult in our party became very excited ~ she had spied Lamb Shank!!!  She chose Nachos followed of course by the Lamb Shank!!!

The soon to be 9 year old refused a starter and decided on her usual chicken nuggets, chips and beans.  She was very tired having danced in a show until 10pm the night before, and apprehensive as she still had another two performances to go on both Saturday evening and Sunday.

I decided to have breaded mushrooms followed by steak with a peppercorn sauce and a side order of garlic bread for us all to share.  I wasn’t sure which steak would be the most tender so asked Bruce’s advice ~ he said sirloin as rump was, well from the rump!!!

I ordered from the bar and was given a table number.

The waitress brought out the condiments and cutlery, she kept smiling despite having to dodge the children of a family celebrating a 10thbirthday that were running unchecked around the restaurant and balancing along the outside walls!  Eventually they sat down at the table then complained the chips that had been waiting for them were cold!!!

My mushrooms arrived ~ unfortunately the soon to be 9 year old took a liking to them, but without the mushrooms ~ we shared, she had the outsides and I had the mushrooms!  Her mother fared better; she got the nachos to herself.

Starters enjoyed, the main course arrived ~ my steak was actually sizzling!!!!  It was served on a special hot plate.  It was lean, tender and delicious!!  The lamb shank was so tender it fell off the bone; my daughter was quite disappointed when it was all gone, and she said it was so lovely!!  The chicken nuggets, chips and beans went down very well too as did the garlic bread!

Dessert ~ of course we had to have a dessert.  Custard face appealed to the soon to be 9 year old, this was served warm with a whole packet of Cadbury’s Chocolate Buttons to make the face.  I chose Warm Chocolate Brownie with chocolate sauce and ice cream ~ mmmmmm!!!!  The lamb shank fan chose treacle sponge with custard.  Desserts enjoyed very much by all, it was almost time to leave to prepare our little star for her show!!

We decided not to go for wine and drank diet cola or shandy with the meal.

Prices were very reasonable, our starters were under £3, mains around £7 and desserts around £3 ~ the child’s meal was £2.99 with an extra 99p I think for the dessert.  The menu was varied with prices starting quite low, I think we chose the most expensive mains on the menu.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.  Both the waitress and Bruce made sure they came to check everything was okay, if we needed something we just had to ask.

I can thoroughly recommend Sizzling, we will definitely be revisiting as it is great value for money, and even better, we noticed children eat for just £1 every Wednesday!!!
