Rose and Crown Warwick Review

The Rose and Crown

Reviewed by Kim Petty

My husband Ian and I chose to go to The Rose and Crown in Warwick on a Saturday evening, it nestles just off the main street in Warwick in an ideal location for a gastro pub. The welcome we received was very warm and friendly and the bar area was lively and vibrant.

We were seated at a table in the corner of a bubbly and conversation filled restaurant area.

The manager brought over the main menu and the specials board, from these, Ian choose the smoked duck salad from the specials board (inspired by the head chefs newly acquired smoker) and I choose the pan fried scallops, cauliflower puree, crispy bacon and sugarsnap pea salad both were superb and a fantastic prelude to our meal.

For the main course, I choose the 28 day matured Aberdeenshire beef Bavette steak (the Bavette steak is a French cut of beef). The steak was cooked perfect for my taste, and the horseradish and rosemary potato cake and sauce was a fine accompaniment. Ian chose the Rack of Cornish lamb, new potatoes and Provencal roast vegetables from the main menu. The lamb had a delicious breadcrumb and herb crust, served pink and wonderfully tender combined with the vegetables work together to titillate the taste buds.

After this plethora of food, an offer of dessert was extended to us, which we duly accepted, the choice was wide and varied but eventually choices were made with mine being the summer fruit pudding with clotted cream, a very rich good size portion. Ian on the other hand had the cheese board consisting of five specially selected cheeses, celery apple and chutney with Miller damsel biscuits (enough to share).

The Rose and Crown prides itself on British and locally sourced seasonal ingredients of which the sources are visited to ensure they deliver what they promise. The combination of a young very talented award winning chef and a manager that’s passionate, efficient, knowledgeable and an all-round wonderfully welcoming front of house staff make The Rose and Crown ideal for any occasion.

We were especially impressed by the European feel to the dining experience with children being welcomed well after 9.00pm.

Also every Thursday the Head chef and the manager collaborate to have a specials evening currently using the tastes of the Deep South’s smoke houses.

A real must to visit. All in all an excellent value for money evening out!
