My husband was very excited that I required his taste buds to help me review Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. I had been sent 10 bottles, now do not get too excited this is 10 bottles sized 50ml per bottle.

I have been brought up in a whiskey drinking family, my Grandad was very partial, however he only drank Scotch whiskey, so I personally had never tried bourbon. So I was in for a treat.

We both agreed this was a lovely smooth whiskey with a delightful rich taste. We tried it straight, on the rocks and also with a dash of lemonade. We enjoyed all of these drinks. So, I personally think this would also be a good base for a long cocktail. Such as Bourbojito which also contains, mint, lime juice and mineral water. Or how do you fancy an Elderflower wheel, the other ingredients include, elderflower liqueur, lemonade, mint, mineral water and lemon. They sound mouth-watering. Have I tempted you?

As the name suggests it originates from America and dates back to 1849. Back in the day all other companies were using rye mash to produce their whiskeys and Rebel Yell were the pioneer for wheat-based bourbon. This particular blend has won awards. It is also only one of a handful on the market.

The brand name Rebel Yell was introduced in 1936 and was only distributed to the Southern States of America and it was almost another 50 years before it was distributed nationally and worldwide.

Rebel Yell produce various blends of whiskeys this particular one is golden in colour. It has a beautiful very distinctive flavour of honey and butter, with a touch of spice and a hint of plum and raisins.

They also produce a small batch reserve which contain notes of vanilla, rye spice and caramel. A straight rye whiskey, this is spicy with notes of chocolate and vanilla. Altogether they have six in their collection.

It is sold under the logo Honest Whiskey at an Honest Price. Which is very appealing.

Rebel Yell is owned and marketed by Luxco and is aged at its new distillery in Louisville, Kentucky.

It is said that Billy Idols song Rebel Yell was inspired by him seeing The Rolling Stones drinking a bottle of the said bourbon.

It is 80% proof which means that 40% of the liquid is alcohol.

There is a government warning on the bottle to drink sensibly, that it can cause health problems and not to drive whilst under the influence of alcohol. Only sold to over 18-year-old, so I personally have no problem buying this!

This would be an ideal gift to give any bourbon loving partner for a Valentines treat.

The Rebel Yell website includes the products, cocktail recipes, a blog and more about the distillery.

I am awarding this bourbon 5/5 stars I cannot compare it to other bourbons, so I can only go by my own taste buds which were suitably impressed.
