I went to the launch of the new Pizza Rossa at London Wall, a short walk from Moorgate Station in London on Wednesday 19th November.
It’s a small shop based at one end of London Wall, where a few other food outlets are also. It’s generally aimed at the office workers of which there are many in that area and anyone on the go. They also have a pop up at Whittington Avenue, Leadenhall Street. Founder Corrado Accardi previously a chartered engineer, was inspired by the street food vendors of Italy and he raised the capital needed for this venture through crowd funding.
The idea is to pop in and grab a slice of the square shaped pizza (or perhaps two) to take away. The base is made from a different kind of dough than we are used to in the UK and is proven for 24 hours. It is much healthier, lighter with less calories! The pizzas are cooked in only 90 seconds and are a great light meal with a balance of protein, vegetables and carbohydrates.
They also do a sweet or savoury breakfast, coffee and soft drinks, Panini, lasagne, salads etc…
They have a ‘special of the day’ such as Pumpkin & Pancetta as well as the veggie or meat pizza’s (Siciliana, Parma, Margherita). They use high quality ingredients from specific regions in Italy, such as passata, buffalo mozzarella from Campania, aubergine and ricotta cheese from Piedmont, Parma ham, goat’s cheese, walnuts, wheat flour from Naples, sea salt and olive oil from Puglia.
The price per pizza is between £2.69 – £2.99.
Monday Madness offers 2 slices of pizza for £2.99 and the daily meal deal is £4.99.
The shop itself is quite plain, not overcomplicated yet stylish. Blackboards adorn the walls listing the menu and prices. The food is cooked while you wait in full view. I sampled a selection of pizza’s and they were indeed tasty and the base much crisper and lighter. I think it’s a great idea and a welcome change to the usual take away venues. I’m sure it will be a great success and a big hit with the time conscious office workers.
