I love a gift that requires effort, and I have always encouraged my children to make and create cards and gifts for family. So the idea of a canvas print for a Christmas gift is just my thing, and it’s something that can be given to friends and family of all ages. This type of gift does take a little time to arrange so for me it has to involve an easy website to navigate with plenty of options.
I haven’t used Vistaprint before, but my experience has been an entirely positive one. All communication with members of staff has been friendly and helpful, and the site is so simple to use.
The choices of canvas size and design are fantastic. You choose your size and orientation then move onto browsing the designs. You can choose a simply single photograph, or you are able to select a multi-photo option. Some of the designs have text added as a sample although you can change the wording should you wish and move things around. I have to say that I preferred to stick to the design I chose as much as possible, as when I started to move photos I got into a little difficulty. This was due entirely to my inability and lack of patience and not the website. The design was so lovely to start with that there was little point in trying to change things.
I like that you have the option to choose a design and add your photos without the need to adjust anything, or you can really custom make your artwork and spend time to achieve the look you want. It’s a step-by-step process that most people should be able to use with confidence once you have navigated your way around the site.
I chose a family design of 5 pictures on a 30 x 30cm canvas and it arrived promptly and well packed. In fact, it took some effort to unpack it as there was no way it was getting damaged in transit, which is reassuring.
The photo quality is good and the colours are bright. The canvas is certainly well made when you look at the pack of the frame, and I am very pleased with the final product. The full price cost of the sized product is £26.98 which is pretty competitive and I feel good value.
One noteworthy point is that I was given the option of a black frame for an additional £11.98, so I decided to try this thinking that it would make the photos “pop” a little against a plain wall. For me, it doesn’t quite work as it is neither a canvas nor a framed photograph within this border. I think this would come down to personal choice as it is a little different, and for some people this would present as a positive.
The main issue that I had was finding a photograph of decent quality. My photos were from a phone with a good camera, but the alert stating that the quality was poor popped up on all of the photographs that I attempted to use as a single picture on this size of canvas. I am not especially “tech savvy” so I wonder if perhaps I had zoomed in when taking the original shot, I really cannot say what the reason was. I have to assume the fault was mine, but this is something to be mindful of when selecting your choice(s).
This is the reason that I opted for a canvas with an arrangement of 5 photos, as the quality was deemed acceptable when they weren’t enlarged to as great a degree.
Overall this is a good quality product with a user-friendly website. It makes a lovely Christmas gift for family, particularly Grandparents. I also think there’s a place for a gift such as this with a cat or dog owner! I would award this product 4.5 stars out of 5.
