We visited the Greenwich restaurant but there are also other sites in Chiswick, Farringdon, Guildford, New Oxford Street, Queensway, Richmond, Bristol and Manchester.
If you want a real taste of Italy without boarding a plane then you need to try Pasta Evangelist. From the moment we walked in there was a real feel of an authentic Italian cafe / restaurant. The greeting from our waitress was warm and welcoming. The seating areas gave you a real feel of a community restaurant which I loved.
The counter area was laden with more than six different styles of fresh pastas and desserts. Behind this was the open kitchen with the chefs creating masterpieces of delicious pasta and pizza dishes whilst you watched.
We went on a damp Monday afternoon and whilst there we saw a steady flow of diners throughout the two hours. In addition, to a traditional restaurant/cafe there was a takeaway and delivery service too. I assume they get a high demand for take-away as not only were there two ordering desks along with two electronic ordering machines with the full menu. All set away from the main dining area. I’d like to add that the prices are very reasonable and competitive especially where their locations are.
There was so much to choose from on the menu but our waitress, talked us through the types of flavours etc along with her personal recommendations. As the name suggests the menu is primarily pasta with options of three pizza’s and three risottos. For starters I chose the garlic prawns and my companion the meat balls both of which were superb and generous portions. For main I had the chicken and mushroom risotto which was just divine, silky smooth and rich in flavour. My companion, the Carbonara, which she said was one of the best she had ever had; the pasta was beautifully cooked along with the sauce and the pancetta was fresh and just cut so it had a fabulous smokey flavour with a crispy texture. Again the portion sizes were big enough for the healthiest appetite.
Desserts – you really cannot have an Italian meal without trying the country’s famous Tiramisu. This definitely didn’t disappoint. It was creamy, beautifully light and moist – one I will be ordering when returning. The other dessert was the melt in the middle chocolate fondant sponge with vanilla ice cream, again fabulous. The most delightful surprise of all was the Pistachio sponge cake of which the name does not give it the credit due. The sponge was a three layered cake with a sponge base, cream layer and a whipped pistachio topping. I think they are doing this an injustice but naming it a lowly sponge cake as it was a dream dessert.
The restaurant offers a diverse range of services in addition to the eat in, delivery and take-away services too. They have their own pasta academy where you can book a pasta making class led by expert chefs of which they have special occasion classes too such as Fathers Day beer and pasta making, unlimited prosecco and wine tasting classes combined with the pasta making. These extend to private classes or family and children classes. Ranging from £25 to £65 per person. They also offer catering services, private events or even get your own cook at home kit.
The whole experience was amazing and I will definitely be visiting again and may well try the pasta making classes. I would just like to add here that I’ve never been a pasta fan due to the texture but after continually trying pasta dishes over the years I think I have been converted after trying it at Pasta Evangelists.
Thank you to the team at Pasta Evangelist, Cutty Sark for making our visit one of the best dining experiences in a long time
