OXO Good Grips Extendable Tile & Tub Scrubber Review

Reviewed by Gemma Ingham

I received the OXO Good Grips Extendable Tile & Tub Scrubber to review. Strangely, I was actually excited to try this out and couldn’t wait to clean my bathroom!

I suffer with back problems so bending over the bath to clean it is quite a painful task and it only ever seems to get a basic clean, so the prospect of being able to clean the bath without bending down was so appealing. Also, the tiles high up in my bathroom needed a wipe down and being only 5ft 3 I can’t reach to do them, so the fact this tool extends to 106cm with a quick twist of the pole makes it super useful.

The head of the scrubber pivots as you clean so I found it very easy to get it to go where I needed. It seemed to clean perfectly fine against straight edges and into corners. One edge of the head is straight and the other is shaped to a point and the pointed part was very useful for corners, and even getting into grout lines. The sponge pad on it is abrasive enough to give everything a good scrub without damaging the finish.

Armed with the scrubber and my usual bathroom cleaning spray I found I could spend more time making sure the bath had a really good clean than usual because I wasn’t uncomfortable from bending over and crouching to do so. I could stand up and clean it as if I were using a mop on the floor, and the bath ended up sparkling which is a rare thing in this house!

When doing my tiles I extended the pole and locked it in place. I found even though the pole was now longer I still had a decent control over where I needed it to go, and again, the head pivoted to all the right places leaving my tiles clean, dust free and shiny.

A problem I did find when doing the high tiles is that as the sponge on the end is more abrasive than absorbent it could just move wet dust and dirt around rather than cleaning it up. At the end of the clean I did get an absorbent cloth and wrap it around the scrubber to finish off and get rid of any dirty water marks. Also, as there’s no way to squeeze excess water out of the head before using I did find it just ran down the tiles haphazardly. However, these are negative points I am happy to live with as the scrubber does work so well in other areas.

Ideas for improvements to the OXO Good Grips Tile & Tub Scrubber could be to have interchangeable heads, for example a squeegee head or soft sponge head for cleaning water from the tiles. A reservoir for water or cleaning solution with a trigger spray to dispense could be useful so you don’t have to let go of the pole to spray your cleaner when doing tiles on the wall.

Overall it’s a great bit of kit and is worth buying to add to your cleaning routine, but definitely best used in conjunction with traditional sponges and cloths.
