One Night of Elvis at the Grove Theatre Dunstable Review

Reviewed by Amanda Browne
With much excitement, we visited the Grove Theatre (5 May 2017) in Dunstable to see One Night of Elvis, before I go any further you need to know Lee Memphis King is the KING!
We took to our seats in a packed-out theatre, all ages were present and I have to say there was a real buzz even before Elvis stepped on stage. I have never been to a show where the audience burst into spontaneous applause before the act has come on stage, such was the excitement.
He really didn’t disappoint. This show is amazing, he is amazing, the band was amazing. Lee Memphis King certainly looks the part and has several costume changes through the show. Whilst he is singing, actual real life pictures of Elvis from the period are in the background which is bittersweet as listening to the songs you really realise what a huge talent the man was. I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like to see him perform live; Lee Memphis King gives you a glimpse. The set is based on the Vegas Years 1969 to 1977, and Lee shares lots of Elvis facts throughout the show. If you weren’t an Elvis super fan when you walked in you surely left wanting more, more, more.
If you shut your eyes I’m sure you wouldn’t know it wasn’t the King himself. Lee is by far the best Elvis I have ever heard and I’m just in love with his voice. He actually sang my personal favourite In the Ghetto, so he made my night, but American Trilogy was outstanding. Whilst he’s so warm and engaging he really does pack the show with as many songs as possible, yet I still left wanting more. The Grove made the show intimate but Lee really wouldn’t be out of place in an arena, such is the quality of his voice. I had an absolute ball and can’t wait to watch him again. Loved, loved, loved it, thank you for an amazing night, long live the KING!
