I’ve suffered from oily and blemish prone skin since I was a teenager and have tried many different products over the years to try to resolve this with varying levels of success. Recently my skin has been particularly oily and I’m finding that by mid-afternoon my makeup is starting to slide off which makes me very self-conscious and feels horrible especially in the warmer weather. I was therefore very happy to be asked to test the Lemon & Tea Tree Purifying Wash from Odylique as it sounded like it could be just the product I’ve been looking for.
I had never heard of the Odylique brand before, but from a bit of research I can see that it was formed 30 years ago by a mother who had very sensitive skin and was looking for a natural solution to her various skin problems, she and her daughter developed a range of products which are handmade in Suffolk and they even have a botanic garden to visit! The philosophy of Odylique is very simple – “We Love Your Skin (and the planet)” which sounds perfect. All of the products are certified by the Soil Association and are vegan. They are also tested on humans not animals which is a big bonus.
The Lemon and Tea Tree wash is described by its founder as “A synergistic blend of organic plant oils to gently deep cleanse the skin of impurities and makeup, leaving it scrupulously clean, smooth and balanced” which sounds lovely and just what I’m looking for. The active ingredients are detoxifying lemon, antibacterial tea-tree, rehydrating vitamin rich extra virgin olive and soothing mineral-rich aloe juice. It is also 70% organic.
When the face wash arrived I wasn’t disappointed, it came in a plain and elegant box and inside was a really good quality bottle with pump dispenser. I loved the fact that the ingredients on the box were listed twice – once in the usual way with the “technical” names and then again in Plain English which actually made me understand what they were.
When I tried out the face wash I was really impressed. It is a very light lotion and easy to apply to my face. It lathers up really well and a little goes a long way so I think the 200ml bottle will last a long time making it good value for money as well. The lemony fragrance is really lovely and natural and after using the face wash my skin feels so clean and soft. I’ve been using the face wash for a few days now and I have already noticed that my skin is slightly less oily by the afternoon so I’m hoping with even longer use I’m going to see a real improvement. I’ve also used the face wash to remove my make up in the evening, which usually I would use face wipes for, and have been very impressed at how well it removes it, especially as I use heavy duty camouflage foundation.
I would highly recommend the Odylique face wash to anyone with oily skin, it has been a real treat to use and I can see that it is a high-quality product and worth the relatively high price tag. I am really keen to try some of the other products in the range too.
