For a kitchen appliance, this is very sleek and looks good on my worktop! I like the aesthetics of it, in that the mirrored section of the base hides all the settings when switched off but that they all light up when it’s on.
I was impressed that this item turned up in a custom fitted external brown box. Inside, the nutribullet box was in perfect condition. Upon opening the box, there were a few different bagged items including the base, the jug, the lid, the middle bit of the lid, a pusher and the user guide, safely packed in shaped cardboard to fit the box.
The jug part is called the pitcher and is family friendly plastic rather than being made of glass. This made me much more comfortable allowing my clumsiest child near it when using it! The pitcher also has a huge, family friendly, capacity at 1850ml. This makes it great for all sorts of family sized recipes, although on the larger side to store away when not in use. Also of note, as a parent, is that the motor will not run unless the lid is locked in place. I expect this would be a really useful and comforting feature for those with younger children or children who may attempt to use it unsupervised. It was for using it with my clumsy one, who tries his best but can trip up over thin air!
The base has some ‘intelligent programmes’ for purees, soups, frozen drinks and smoothies. With these settings you just push the named button and the right speed and time for the setting work automatically. Alternatively, there are pulse, low, medium and high settings. These are listed as being for the following in the user guide;
‘Pulse: to control chopping and processing
Low: to mix thin batters, gravies or marinades… process cooked foods or uncooked fruits.
Medium: to cream soups, blend sauces and spreads… also great for grinding nuts.
High: to liquefy thick mixtures and extract frozen fruits and vegetables into smoothies
Before using it I washed the jug and all lid parts with soapy water, although it’s worth noting that the pitcher is also dishwasher safe.’
Having the different programmes available made it feel quite versatile, although I also enjoyed the effortlessness of having the pre-programmed options available.
My children were really keen to make smoothies with this, so we’d been out to buy lots of fruit before trying it for the first time. Our first smoothie was a mix of strawberries, bananas and mango, which went down well. Our second one was raspberries, blueberries and ice cream. It’s a great way to get lots of fruit in to your children as they were enthusiastic and happy to help choose and cut fruit and operate the nutribullet. We used the smoothie button which automatically blends for 45 seconds then turns off. We found that this was plenty of time to make the perfect textured smoothie.
I have also made a yummy thick, spicy carrot soup which worked out well. I haven’t really made home made soups up to now but like really thick soups so I’m looking forward to making more in this.
I’ve not yet tried cocktails in this but absolutely love cocktails with blended ice, like strawberry daiquiris, so I’m looking forward to trying these in it over the festive season. I would think that this would also be a great item for making healthy protein shakes with fruit, although I haven’t tried it for that reason as yet.
The majority of recipes you would use this item for are very healthy as they’re likely to include a range of fruit, vegetables or a combination of the two. Therefore, I expect this product will appeal to the health conscious as well as parents looking to fill their children with more fruit and vegetables!
I only have one slight criticism of this product and I can see why they did it, to keep the unit fully sealed; but
having the blades integrated in the bottom of the pitcher makes it slightly harder to clean than if the base came out or the blades came out to get to them to clean them.
When I checked out their website, which was really well set out and easy to navigate, I saw that they have a variety of different blenders and juicers, starting from just £29.99 (currently in the sale) for the Magic Bullet Deluxe. I was aware of the brand prior to receiving this item and have only heard good things from friends who already own a nutribullet, as they are known to be of good quality. The website even has a recipe section, which you can filter by blender type and dish and diet type ie. dessert, shakes, vegan, non-dairy. I’m looking forward to sampling some of these, although I must admit I’m more of a ‘choose the basics and then just chuck everything in and see if it works’ kind of person (I operate this practice with most of my food preparation and rarely stick to regimented recipes).
This item is supposed to retail at £199.99, which I thought was a little steep. However, the nutribullet website currently (editor’s note – at the time of writing the review) have a sale on, with it on offer at £149.99 then with an additional code for 10% off if using ‘SAVE10’ making it a much more reasonable £134.99. You can also purchase replacement parts if needed, meaning the item should last for many years.
With the above offer on, it makes it a more manageable price as a present for someone you’d spend a bit more on, like close family or friends and would make a great Christmas gift for someone that’s after a larger capacity nutribullet or multi use blender. It’s also likely to appeal to people who like to bring out or have a good looking gadget on display in their kitchen, as this fits that bill.
Rating: I rate this a; 4.5/5
RRP: £199.99
However, as mentioned this item can currently (as at end of November 2022) be purchased directly from nutribullet for £149.99 with a further 10% off using code SAVE10, so £134.99 here.
