With Christmas now just around the corner, the hunt is on for the perfect Christmas gifts. As a lover of stationary, I was therefore delighted to be chosen to review the lined notebooks by nolki. The parcel arrived as a simple recyclable cardboard package with no excess packaging, with two of the brands notebooks contained inside. The brand has 13 different notebook cover designs to choose from and I was sent two of them: the ‘Toyoko’ and the ‘Betty two’ designs. All of the designs are vibrant blocks of colour with contrasting black edging. They really stand out and I am sure once seeing one you could pick out another of the brands designs by sight. ‘Toyoko’ is an abstract design of shapes and striped blocks of colour (with colours including yellow, red, green blue and pinks). The Betty two design is similar but made up of larger shapes of colour and no internal striped detail, it also has a name label on the front. All the shades of colour are bold and work well together in an intentional contrasting way, making them really stand out from the crowds.

Both notebooks were from the lined notebooks range, however you can also buy mini block notebooks, or packs of three pocket notebooks. The lined notebooks are all A5 in size so handy to keep out on the desk or easy to transport your handbag or laptop bag. All notebooks are made from, what is described by the brand, as ‘natural uncoated paper.’ The paper feels smooth and is a good thickness, so certainly feels good quality. All pages of these notebooks are lined, so perfect for keeping notes, lists or records of any sort. I liked the details of page numbers throughout and a name and date label section on the first page. The covers are described as ‘rugged’ and definitely have this sort of texture to them which adds a bit more depth. The curved edging of the notebook and pages within also add an extra layer to the design which I liked.

Now stocked wordwide, nolki, sell a wide range of other stationary items, all with their characteristic bold colourful designs all designed in London and made in Italy. The range includes ‘day pad’ planners, weekly planners, journals (3 year, 5 year and bucket list versions). I particularly liked the range of washi tape, where designs use their bright colour patterns, to decorate any other stationary or the ingenious days of the week tape, to remove the hassle of repetitively writing it out yourself.

From the designs I received, my personal favourite was the ‘Toyoko’ as it stood out the most as being a bit different, however both were great designs. As a working mother I am forever writing to do lists and looking for stylish ways to organise myself and my family, and would certainly be happy carrying one of these around or having it on the desk at home. Not one for those that don’t want to stand out, but I would think a great Christmas gift for most girls and ladies alike (as well as their brothers or partners!). My only uncertainty was the price, with each notebook at £12 they are a fair bit more than many on the market, although would therefore still make a great gift. I will certainly keep the brand in mind for stationary gifts in the future, particularly the journals which I already have my eye on!

Rating: I would give these notebooks a rating of 4 out of 5.
