Naansters tag line is: Simply Curry On The Go.

It is simple, it is different. I was bored of the usual humdrum lunchtime sandwich and was very pleased to see the Naanstar Vegetable Balti. The packaging is simple, card inlay over the naan and cellophane clear packaging. There is nothing over the top about the branding, and really I had neither positive or negative feelings towards it, it serves it purpose but I am sure with marketing experts they really could stand out as something different in the chilled aisles.

As I said I was bored of the usual sandwich, I love Indian food, love spice and I love heat. I was really excited to try the Naanster.

It took 90 seconds in the microwave and was very hot when it came out. I decided to eat mine with a knife and fork, but could easily be held in the hands once cooled a little.

I found that the outer edges of the naan without filling in felt a little doughy as it is folded. The filling itself was tasty, a nice combination of spice but in my opinion no heat, maybe a range of different heats to suit one’s ability to handle Chillies and Spice? As I explained I enjoyed the flavours and was left feeling satisfied and no need to raid the biscuit barrel before dinner.

As well as myself eating the vegetable Balti, I shared the experience with family allowing them to try Beef Madras: Nice flavours but no real heat, not enough filling came from my carnivorous, hungry stepfather! Chicken Balti and Chicken Tikka both felt that the Naan did not heat evenly through as the most filling was in the middle and it was really hot on the outside and not so hot elsewhere. Once again, we must all be seeking the heat because although the flavourings where there not enough heat

Would I recommend the Naanstar? Maybe, makes a nice change but I would not go singing from the rooftops either about this very clever new chilled aisle treat.
