Moorish Smoked Dips Review

MoorishMoorish Smoked Dips

Reviewed by Nia Lock

I was delighted to be asked to review three flavours of Moorish Smoked Dips and was very excited when my box of dips arrived. The packaging was attractive and the quotes on the labels appealed to me. I armed myself with a fresh sourdough baguette, a hungry toddler and a selection of vegetable batons and the tasting began.

First up was Superdelish, a creamy red pepper smoked dip. I was pleased to note that the dip had a yogurt and cream cheese base and was the sort of vibrant colour that you’d expect from a fresh red pepper dip. The smokiness here comes from chipotle sauce but that doesn’t overshadow the red pepper. It tastes lovely and the texture is just right.

Next was Heartyish, a smoked white bean and semi dried tomato dip, a butter bean based dip with the main flavour being of tomato. This had a lovely chunky texture without being lumpy and had a beaniness about it that I really like, especially spread on fresh baguette.

Zingyish is a lemon and dill smoked humous, this was our absolute favourite! The delicate flavour balance between the lemon, dill and smokiness was perfect as you could still taste the nuttiness of the humous, it was just delicious. Unsurprisingly this flavour has a great taste award (2013).

The packaging is very easy to open but isn’t resealable which would be useful. There was a recipe on the inside sleeve of the Zingyish dip which I would love to try but unfortunately this dip was so tasty that I ate the leftovers with a spoon for breakfast. Moorish by name, moreish by nature.

All three dips had a pleasing texture suitable for dipping or spreading and all taste of real ingredients. I was pleased to find my toddler enjoyed all the dips and even asked for more which made an excellent contribution towards her daily intake of nutritious vegetable based foods. The dips contain no artificial flavours or colours and are produced in the UK.

I thoroughly enjoyed tasting these dips, they are very competitively priced and I shall certainly be buying them in future.
