We are always extremely excited for another game to play during our family time. We have quite the collection and play quick games, card games, new ones, old classics and ones aimed at all ages. But if we are having a game night, it’s always fabulous to play a long lasting game for the evening where everyone has a strategy to win and it can get quite competitive. MLEM Space Agency is a new board game recently released this year that involves strategy, space exploration and….cats!

The first thing I noticed, before even opening the box, is how good the quality is. The box is thick, strong cardboard and it has been designed beautifully. The artwork is amazing and the title shimmers in gold text. It is eye catching. You want to pick this box up and learn more. I was very happy that the box had also been plastic wrapped to keep it secure during transit preventing any scratches to the outside of the box. The wonderful design of the box makes it stand out; it would be an amazing Christmas gift that would really delight when unwrapped.

I was wowed even more when I opened the box up. The high quality continues. The inside of the box is also in full colour with a cardboard tray to neatly store each of the game components. The playing boards and pieces are exceptional quality and again beautifully printed. The game also includes a playing mat. I was surprised that this is a rubber backed material mat. I am really impressed, especially as MLEM Space Agency has an RRP of £28.99 which is the same if not less in cost to many other games currently available that pale in comparison.

Before starting, or even reading the rule book, there is a small paragraph on the cover which sets the scene for the game. MLEM Space Agency is set in 2075 and cats rule the world. They now have their sights set on conquering space. I love how much thought has gone into the creation of the game with every effort to make it fun and engaging.

The rule book is quite daunting, covering sixteen pages in total. Although they are full colour with plenty of diagrams. If that’s not your thing, there is a QR code which links to a working You Tube video of about 20 minutes in length that explains the rules and shows the set up and some gameplay. Once you know how to play, a game lasts around half an hour to an hour. It’s for 2 to 5 players and suitable for ages 8+ making it ideal for a board game night.

The aim of the game is to explore space with your cats, each of which has different abilities, and earn points. The winner is simply the one with the most points when either all the astronauts are in space or the rocket has crashed a few too many times. It’s great fun as a group to play once you’ve figured out the different playing phases and as you play more and become more familiar you can try out different strategies to try and win. It’s a great concept and there’s some fantastic humour along the way too.

It’s a lovely one to add to your collection if like us you enjoy board games. It would also make a wonderful gift for adults or children that is a bit unusual. I always find a board game makes a popular present for Christmas as it can be enjoyed straight away by all the family on Christmas day. There’s nothing better for family time at home.
