Peppa Pig and all of her friends have been a favourite in our house for quite a few years now. We have watched the episodes on repeat and played with many of the toys. So, my son was very excited for us to receive two Peppa Pig Growing Pots this week. Plus there was no better time than the start of the Summer holidays to receive an outdoor toy.
The Peppa Pig Growing Pots are essentially Peppa Pig themed plant pots designed to get children having a go at gardening and attempting to grow their own produce. Each growing pot is designed to look like a little house complete with a front door. Inside there are some small plastic toys, a packet of seeds and an instruction leaflet for growing. We received two growing pots to try. The first was George Pig. This came with a small George and a Dinosaur figure plus much to my son’s delight a tiny working magnifying glass which he has been using to have a look at the seeds up close. The small toys fit inside a small space behind the door, which keeps them safe and clean away from the soil. There was also a small packet of pea seeds. The instruction leaflet was very clear and simple to understand. My son was able to follow the steps and plant his seeds independently. What I liked is that it also explained how the produce can be eaten when it’s ready. Another feature I liked is that the plastic packaging can be reused as a cloche to keep small seedlings safe at the beginning. Our second growing pot was the Peppa Pig design. This again came with small figures, this time a Peppa and a small bird, and a small packet of mustard seeds. The instructions again were simple, aimed at children. Another thing I liked is that each pot also comes with a small fence piece that slots in the side of the plant pot allowing you to join multiple ‘houses’ together in a row. In total there are four designs to collect with the others being Rebecca Rabbit and Suzy Sheep.
With the lovely weather we’ve been having this has been a lovely toy to enjoy some Summer fun in the garden. I think it’s very important for children to learn gardening skills and this is a novel way to get young children interested in growing their own food. Now my son has planted his seeds he’s been encouraged to spend more time in the garden so he can check on and water his plants.
Priced at £9.99 I think the Peppa Pig Growing Pot Assortment is great value for money. They are high quality plastic so could easily be reused multiple times to plant other seeds or even washed out and just played with. They are suitable for 4+ years and in my opinion a lovely activity to enjoy in the garden over Summer.
