These days, life can be so busy and overwhelming, it gets increasingly hard to live in the moment! What with school runs, working, family life and weekends dominated by sports clubs and endless kids parties, it can feel like we’re always ‘on’ and there’s very little downtime. The thought of finding time to read a book and also practice ‘traditional’ meditation can often fill me with dread, so the vicious cycle continues. So when the opportunity presented itself to read and review Nicci Roscoe’s ‘Micro Meditation – Moments of calm for a happier, healthier life’, I couldn’t turn it down.

I didn’t have to wait long for the book to arrive. It came wrapped in a standard plastic postage bag and the book itself arrived in pristine condition. Upon opening the bag, I was struck straight away by the beautiful design of the book – a lovely lilac colour, adorned with silver writing, butterflies and hearts. The pages are attractive and contain some great art work, which I think makes the book instantly more readable, rather than page after page of black & white print.

I had an initial flick through the book, just to get a feel for it. What I was immediately impressed with was how well laid out the contents page was – so simple in the categorisation of themes; just four chapters – Managing Stress and Challenging Emotions, Changing Your Mindset, Finding Your Calm and Crystal Magic & Chakras for Micro Meditation. This simple layout helps the reader navigate the appropriate section for their needs, which, of course, could be fluid and change depending on any situations encountered.

The micro meditations in this book range from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, which is perfect for anyone with a hectic life that just needs a bit of grounding and some practical coping strategies, every now and again. Like little snippets, designed to not add to the stress of life, rather provide invaluable support and some much needed perspective, bringing you back to the moment. There are also some really helpful breathing exercises – never underestimate the importance of breathing.

I’m currently dealing with some stress issues at work, so after I’d read the introduction, I headed straight for the section on Conflict Challenges, where I found a micro meditation on how to deal with a person or situation that is upsetting. I found the advice and meditation straightforward, clear and easy to put into practice. I think that’s the beauty of a book like this – you can dip in and out as the need arises, rather than reading it from cover to cover, as you would a regular book. Then you have this wonderful book as a useful resource, to refer to, as and when you need it.

At the time of review, I hadn’t yet dabbled in the crystal side of things, but it’s something that’s piqued my interest for exploration of my own holistic wellness, in the near future.

Another advantage of this paperback book is the fact that it’s small enough to be carried around, meaning that you can pop it in your work bag or wherever you’re headed and practice a micro meditation if the need crops up.

I think that’s an absolute steal for this lovely book and it would make a brilliant Christmas gift for anyone in your life needing some time out from the overwhelm. I’d definitely recommend this book to my friends, as I think they’d really benefit from reading it. I can already feel how useful it’s going to be for me, personally. In a world which rarely slows down, this book serves as a gentle reminder that peace is within reach, sometimes you just need a little friendly help.
