Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa

A weekend of indulgence and relaxation.
On a child free weekend, my husband and I were lucky enough to be invited to review the Mercure Hotel in Blackburn. Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa is set in stunning grounds overlooking fabulous relaxing views of countryside – the perfect setting for an escape. The building itself dates back over 700 years and has been luxuriously renovated to a 4 star hotel with fabulous leisure and spa facilities. Our room was an executive suite with ample space, large bathroom consisting of a walk in shower and bath, as well as complimentary slippers and robes, and luxury toiletries.
Our stay was nothing but relaxing; Saturday consisted of an hour in the well-equipped modern gym, then an experience of all 5 saunas, including a traditional Rock sauna and steam room; then a dip in the pool and a relax in the Jacuzzi – such a hard life!
Our dinner reservation on Saturday was at 7.30pm and here would be my only criticism of the weekend; even though it was a busy Saturday night the wait for our food order and the subsequent arrival of food was a little too long – saying that though, the food was certainly worth the wait. Our steaks were cooked to perfection, garnished with home-cut chips mushrooms and tomato; absolutely delicious!
Our package included a spa treatment using only the very luxurious Decleor products, and was booked in for us for the Sunday morning. The spa area was calming and professional and the back, neck and shoulder massage left me feeling relaxed and sleepy!
I would definitely recommend an escape to Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa. It's perfect for a weekend retreat, but also do look into the event nights and pamper package offers they promote too. The venue is also perfect for weddings and other family functions; and their meeting and board room facilities would make it a good solution to a business event or team building location.
