If you’ve never had a product from LUSH before, the most notable aspect is always the scent, the instant delicious smell that emanates from the packaging itself is immediately appealing. I couldn’t wait to open the box, which is covered in brightly coloured hearts with eyes, some of which had stuck-on googly eyes – extremely apt! Of course this gift set is full of cosmetics and I was very intrigued to give something I’d never bought before from LUSH a try.
The first thing I had to open was Bubblegum Lip Scrub. It has a gorgeous sweet smell, and is simply made from castor sugar, organic jojoba oil, flavouring and colour – so tempting and great at getting your lips smooth and soft. You only need a tiny amount, so I can see me using this pot for quite a while. Even my husband wanted to try a little and agreed it was lovely!
The box also includes Gorgeous Moisturiser, a small 10g ‘Trial size’ tin of facial cream that is packed full of fresh fruit juices such as pineapple, orange and lemon, not to mention plenty of oils. Despite this being a trial size, you only really need a little, so it is deceptively generous and will last some time, depending on how frequently you use it. I find it great for night-time, when you can let it soak into the skin and the fabulous scent is relaxing and comforting.
Next there is Decisive Lipstick, a bright red shade that contains a glorious mixture of Jojoba oil and waxes which make it more like a lip-stain, extremely long-lasting and giving you the choice of the strength of colour you desire, as it is applied with a sponge applicator. I used a generous amount to begin with and even after removal, my lips were tinted the following day – not a problem in my view, but it demonstrated that again, I could use a smaller amount and it would last a very long time. The colour of course is certainly for those who want to stand out, a brilliant bold red and rather sexy too!
Finally I gave the Eyes Right Mascara a try and was pleasantly surprised that it created long dark lashes without any clumping and in fact the claim on bottle ‘with fresh wheatgrass to condition your lashes’ sounded spot-on. I honestly felt that this product was the nicest mascara I’ve ever used. If you want more volume, you can apply extra coats, but for something that is going onto your eyes, this is particularly gentle and nourishing. It’s not something I’ve thought carefully about before, but considering I have quite sensitive eyes (they often sting, even when I get water in them), I was delighted to find that this was such a delicate mascara. The only slight problem I had with this was the applicator wand is very short compared to most other brands and I found it a bit fiddly to use. Nevertheless it’s hardly a deal-breaker, when the mascara is so good.
The LUSH I Only Have Eyes For You gift set costs £36.95 – fairly expensive for what may seem like small items, but as they are clearly going to last for ages and are made from all the best natural ingredients, it’s a very reasonable cost. A fantastic gift for that special lady this Valentine’s Day, or indeed at any time of year for someone who enjoys looking and feeling their best – this set definitely does the trick!
