Good ‘Old Fashioned’ comedy from a good ‘Old Fashioned’ gent.
Lloyd Langford claims to be old fashioned and his latest show proves it. With sex, drugs and alcohol being key comedy factors he is definitely an old fashioned comic. Add an ingenious immaturity and you have a unique comedy style. Lloyd will have you asking yourself some questions you never thought you’d ask and as insane as the questions may be you will find yourself asking your companion that very question. Sorry it would spoil the show to tell you the question.
After seeing Lloyd perform as Rhod Gilbert’s supporting act a few years ago I wondered how he would do as the main (only) performer. After a shaky if not uncomfortable start Lloyd came into his own and had the audience eating from the palm of his hands, not literally of course. Occasionally he dipped back into his uncomfortable demeanour but it never took him long to return to his confident stand up self.
Performing in the Aldridge Studio in The Lowry must be more difficult than any other of the Lowry’s theatres. With a smaller room comes a smaller audience and fewer chances to get a good laugh from the audience. Although Lloyd had a few quiet moments he had a great rapport with the audience throughout making one lady laugh so much she choked on her drink, enter good old fashioned Lloyd to offer her his bottle of water alongside a rude joke – a true sign of a great comedian managing to be so quick witted.
Lloyd’s ticket prices aren’t as high as many others, especially considering his appearances alongside the likes of Rhod Gilbert and his guest appearances on television shows like QI and 8 out of 10 cats but this just means his tickets are great value for money.
Lloyd is definitely one to keep an eye out for, he will always deliver a good show.
A few shaky moments but a fantastic show overall.
